China becomes a importer of stainless steel
From January to February 2022, the total import was 704900 tons, an increase of 3.73 times over the same period last year! Among them, the domestic stainless steel import volume in January was 383600 tons, and the monthly import volume hit a record high, mainly due to the significant increase of stainless steel import from Indonesia. According to the customs data, 618300 tons of stainless steel were imported from Indonesia from January to February 2022, an increase of 8.76 times year-on-year. Among them, the wide cold rolling imported from Indonesia from January to February totaled 207500 tons, an increase of nearly 170000 tons over the same period last year.
From January to February in 2022, the cumulative export was 682400 tons, an increase of 54.38% over the same period last year. However, due to the high import increment in February, China’s stainless steel changed from a net exporter to a net importer, and the net import in February reached 40000 tons.
